[ They're doing good so far. No one is giving them a second glance. Murphy keeps his head up, shoulders rolled back. He's good at acting, playing the part even if it's not him at all but this is how he's kept himself alive for this long. That and he's actually very tactical and strategic when he tries.
He looks behind him every so often to make sure she's still behind him. Subtly he nods his head before looking straight ahead.
A few blocks more and they are able to retreat to their apartment. ]
[She plays the role they have wanted her to since she's gotten here, since they put that stripe down her neck. She catches his eye every time Murphy turns back to check on her, but she doesn't say anything. She just walks behind him, keeps her head down, and follows him back to the Dom apartment.
Once they get in the lobby, she still keeps up pretenses, but once they get into the elevator, she pulls him into a hug and exhales, shaking. She's just glad they made it here.]
[Having finally made concrete plans for a shopping trip, Peter makes his way over to one of the shopping areas in the Up at the appropriate time.
The irony in having made these plans now is that he finally does not need the help of other doms to make purchases. The time has come and gone for him to contract, and he has. Still, Peter thinks this will be amusing. So he's here anyway, tucked neatly and politely into one small corner of a bench as he waits.
......He tries to play a good submissive when he's in public, now. Especially when he's on his own.]
[ Murphy, you have received a series of images, three in total of Raven's bare ass, what distinctly looks like Bellamy's shirt bunched up above her chest and his cock entering her from behind. The first two pictures are a little blurry because of the movement, but the third is the clearest, like he got the best shot on the third try, dropped the phone on his bed and proceeded to fuck Raven within an inch of her life.
[ The hug catches him off guard but collects her into his arms to pull her in close, one hand resting on the back of her head. ] Hey, it's going to be okay [ , Murphy murmurs softly into her hair. ]
We've made it this far. They're not going to separate us now. I won't let that shit go down without a fight.
[ Both of his hands drop down onto either of her shoulders and pulls her far enough so he can look at her, right into those brown eyes. ] I got you, Raven.
[She hates the idea of needing anyone, but right now she's so glad Murphy came for, that he's here with her now. With a slow, shaky breath, her small frame just holds him before looking back up with a firm nod.]
I know. I never doubted you. [He guided her all the way here, and now she was safe, and she would be okay. She just needed to be able to let that out, to show vulnerability with him before exploding.]
If Murphy had the energy, he might have turned on his side so he was facing away from him because that's how you deal with your issues. They're gone if you can't see them, right? That's why he fucked off to the other side of the ring, he couldn't look at all his fuck ups. He could turn a blind eye to all the concerning and disapproving looks. The silence during meals ate away at him more than he could have imagined.
So he curls in himself and just waits until people forget about him. It hurts less than people leaving him first. The pain is still there but maybe it just hurts a little bit less? Murphy can't tell the difference.
Jack can afford a spared glance from Murphy, a sidelong look. ]
How can you go to him after he tried to kill both of us?
[ It took them a while to actually meet. There had been a lot of things that happened between then and now.
Murphy really didn't offer to shop because he was trying to help Peter. He asked because he needed help shopping for clothes. Murphy lacked any sense of fashion, all he did was pick up clothes from the ground back home. Back up in the Ark, all his clothes were taken from empty rooms.
He was all mismatched. That's all he knew. But things here are different. Clothes are clean and not weathered away. They didn't have holes in them unless it was some statement to be made.
From afar, Murphy sees Peter sitting on a bench. With one hand catching the top of the bench, Murphy hopped right over and sat himself down next to Peter. ] Hey. I hope you weren't waiting too long?
[ Murphy manages to pull out an airy chuckle despite being as nervous as he is now. ] I really appreciate the vow of confidence. [ He means it. He needs that assurance.
The elevator doors open and Murphy holds his hand out to Raven so she doesn't step out too fast. He looks out first, down one way and then the other. The hallway is empty so they were free to slink out of the elevator. His hand is on her wrist, loose grip around her, guiding her to their place.
After the door is unlocked, Murphy pulls in Raven first and he follows in right after to shut and lock the door. ]
[Once in the room, she nods. It's exactly what she was thinking, and she nods with a little more assurance.]
I can't stay here. If anyone realizes I have a white stripe, they'll come here first. I was thinking the data firm I've been working on. Wesley can't have my name actually on it, because I'm a sub. But we just got the building all together.
[It's the safest thing she could think. Right now they could regroup here, but she doesn't think it's the best idea to stay here.]
Well, I'm going with you [ , Murphy clips. ] Let's get some shit packed. [ He nods toward their room and goes in first. They have the time now so why not pack some clothes before dipping out until things went back to normal.
Murphy isn't really too sure what normal is anymore.
He tosses a bag onto the bed for her to fill with whatever she needed and wanted to take with her. ]
[As Murphy appears next to him by vaulting over the back of the bench, Peter looks up with a curious look on his face. He's not startled, or if he is he doesn't show it. After a moment, he smiles a bit and shakes his head.]
I hope it is everything you expected it to be [ , Murphy says lightly, a grin is slowly spreading across his face. His smiles usually turn that way at some point. ]
I really look like a bum next to you, huh? [ Peter is very put together and in a very meticulous way. It's very suiting for him. He's got a nice and sharp jawline and everything else on his face that gives him a nice and pleasant effeminate look.
Meanwhile, Murphy looks like a troll that lives under a bridge. ]
I’ve seen the file, Murphy. [ jack answers, slow and careful, after a long moment of silence. They’ve had this talk, and Jack’s not sure if anything else he can say will make Murphy see what the reality about Bucky is. But, he’d asked, so, Jack’s answering. ]
I’ve seen POWs, I’ve been one, and I’ve seen torture and interrogation, but what they did to him? Most countries wouldn’t even let you do it to lab rats. [ it comes in a sad, quiet voice, and while emotion doesn’t often show on jack’s features in a genuine way, he’s already wrapped up in it from missing murphy. It’s too hard to keep this choked down as well, splotches of red pulling up on pale skin around his eyes, cheeks, nose and lips. ] There’s a machine. They’d have to put a mouthguard between his teeth, because the first time they tried it, he shattered a few of them from the pain of it. Two metal plates came down around either side of his head, locking down around his skull, and… they put him through electric shocks so intense it burned every memory of who he was, where he came from and the life he’d had out of his head.
[ Jack breathes out slow, sniffles, and runs his nose against his sleeve. He hates thinking about that file. He hates thinking of the man he’s known, who held him while he sobbed, who’s talked him through panic attacks and listed off what things he finds beautiful about him, and been everything that the words safem comfort, contentment and belonging mean to him, being put into that machine… and made to experience so much pain that it could alter his mind. It breaks his fucking heart. ]
To turn him back to him, Will had to— [ jack sucks his lips against his teeth, remembering watching this, and he doesn’t have the luxury of being able to get lost inside his head right now, already too raw and out in the open with murphy. He swallows back against emotion and keeps going. ] He had to act like one of the Soldier’s handlers, and God— The man who punched through my door, who nearly broke your neck? He was terrified of answering a single question wrong. He couldn’t even understand the concept of being an autonomous creature with a choice in any of it, he was just scared, like an abused dog that can’t understand why it’s being beaten. Just of a question. I watched him shake, and I listened to him scream and sob like his soul was being ripped out of him, before we got Bucky back. Or, someone who could actually recognize the people around him that he’s known for months, for decades.
[ it was a haunting thing, and jack’s still having nightmares about it. Especially seeing as, at this point in time, jack still hasn’t seen his bucky really come back. Only a catatonic husk. No longer the winter soldier, but not the man he knew either. God, but he’s so fucking terrified they won’t ever get him back. ]
I’m sorry, but I— I can’t look at him and see a monster. [ That’s not what something evil looks like, and leaving him with the blame is doing exactly what the torture was designed for - giving someone truly twisted a scapegoat formed from a victim. jack has to take a second to scrub the heel of his palm against his eye, pushing tears out of them. he hasn't really taken a second to really feel about this yet, and here, with murphy so hurt, and bucky maybe never coming back, and jack helpless to do anything that feels right, it's all he can do not to just sob. ] If I knew who read him the words, believe me, Murph, I would rip out their spine and gift it to you on a silver platter with a goddamn bow. But this wasn't Bucky.
